Ive Had Pneumonia So Will I Get It Again
When will I feel normal again after pneumonia?
I'yard a 40 year old non smoker. I spent 7 days in the infirmary with bilateral staph pneumonia. I've been home 2 weeks and however dont feel good. It's non however much tired, just feel apathetic. Low and anxiety have kicked in and I spend well-nigh days just laying around crying. I'k worried about doing besides much and relapsing, but I know I'm supposed to go up and move effectually. I know no 1 can tell me when I volition experience normal, just I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this. I experience so lonely, my family is trying to understand, but since my symptoms have most gone away, they're not as sympathetic anymore. Tin anyone share something that will requite me some much needed encouragement?

Hi I have never had pneumomia but have seen many others say it tin have upwards to 6 weeks to start feeling better. Don't forget your body has been through a horrible ordeal then give yourself a bit of elbowroom at the moment. Hoping yous feel better shortly.
It can actually take a few months to get properly better. Pneumonia is a tremendous assault on your system and leaves you very weak. The antibiotics you accept to take to kill off the infection will make you feel weak and often depressed.
I had double pneumonia (staph aureus) a couple of years ago and it took a lot of exercise, gently merely around the house, and edifice up as I felt able. And moving around exercised my muscles which had deconditioned from lack of use, and they started getting stronger and I felt more in control and with a purpose - getting meliorate - which I knew I could work on.
It sounds like yous are feeling out of control which will of form make you depressed and anxious. Attempt explaining to your family that y'all need back up to get moving around and to build upwards your power to do, but only as much equally you feel capable of doing. They may feel helpless non knowing how to support you. If you want to talk it through with professionals attempt calling the BLF helpline (03000 555 030 office hours) - their nurses are very knowledgeable. Good luck and let u.s. know how you become on.
Thanks for the encouragement. I live in the states and we don't have anything like that to call. I wish we did. I feel so alone. My biggest hurdle today was that I felt amend yesterday than I practice today. I know there will be proficient days and bad, but it's difficult to feel like you're going backwards.
Wondering how you are feeling Now. I am almost 1 yr out and very weak and having animate bug, low oxygen. I am 66 and have had this twice and several bouts of Bronchitis over the years, non-smoker. I experience 100!
Im so sorry you are feeling so bad mayr. To answer your question, I was fine - I did get dorsum to my baseline normal through doing a new PR class, then weekly PR maintenance sessions. I had been well for 3 years autonomously from a couple of minor infections.
BUT I have just had another tour of double pneumonia and respiratory failure and been in hospital for ii weeks, home on 20th March and starting the long journeying of edifice myself up once more. With the respiratory failure I was having 55 litres of oxygen a minute pumped through me, didn't even know they could do that lol. Im now but on 1/2 litre walking round the business firm, and 2 litres when I exercise which Im starting to do very carefully, and mostly non needing supplementary O2 when resting.
Everyone is very weakened after pneumonia and without working on your muscles this may not change. The about of import muscles to work on (though just my opinion) are your quadriceps - thighs - as they are your 'walking' muscles. Assuming you are fit to exercise, you could first doing sit-to-stand up exercises, just starting time with one or two, and build upwards each day. I think people are scared of doing exercise equally they won't be able to do a whole session, but you start from where you are, don't worry well-nigh anyone else's expectations. Practice telephone call the BLF helpline, number above. Good luck!
Thanks for your input. I will try to push myself a little more than. My oxygen is about 91-93. I have Low and Heart Disease and a dysfunctional marriage, living in a isolated place. I am working on a new plan for my life when possible. I am 66 feeling like 86...I am hoping to become back into a Pilates P/T. I also am looking at shoes with adept arch support equally my feet hurt but I think that tin be altered with the right support. I truly hope you can get dorsum to a good place! One thousand
I agree it'due south of import to exercise your quad/leg muscles even a little bit each day, fifty-fifty if it's doing something like bicycle exercises while in bed. My legs are noticeably weak when I stand up up and walk around for more than a minute or two. I besides go very out of breath and feeling like I'g going to faint until I sit down and drag hard on my nebulizer for several minutes. My oxygen can drop into the 80s at my worst, even after the pneumonia bacteria has all been killed out of my lungs. Due to the fabled US healthcare for-turn a profit organisation, my insurance has denied my use of supplemental oxygen at home considering I don't have asthma or COPD or emphysema. I have to suck information technology upwardly and make due with a nebulizer. Just I'm gradually doing a pocket-sized bit of practise at a time, even if it'south just walking from room to room at dwelling house.
Just remembered - calf raises, standing on your tiptoes and and down and upward etc. important not just for strengthening your calf muscles simply too i was told by my Brompton consultant that this facilitates circulation so that information technology helps with swollen ankles/legs. First time I'd heard that.
Good luck with the recovery
How-do-you-do I had bilateral pneumonia over Christmas spent 14 days in infirmary. Please practise not try to rush recovery. You are not alone in how you experience. There is a type of PTSD that can occur in people who have been seriously ill. Have y'all spoke to anyone concerning your depression mood?
As others have said physical recovery can have months, I have just just gained my weight back that I lost. Beingness tired lacking any stamina is all part of mail pneumonia recovery. Your body needs fourth dimension to recover. It will take equally long as it takes. Looking dorsum it was 8 weeks before I started to really pick up and double that earlier I felt every bit stiff as I had before.
We have had a number of posts concerning recovery from pneumonia, many feel similar yous practice so you are definitely not on your own. Balance a skillful diet and lite practice is what y'all need Non worry from a lack of understanding by your family.
Hi mathnerd, please endeavor not to exist anxious every bit it will be added pressure on you to recover, I had pneumonia and was in hospital for 10 days I thought I was never going to get dorsum to normal simply one time my GP told me it tin can take up to 3mths (depending on each individual)I just took each solar day equally it came, you do need to do gentle excercise but you lot too need to remainder when your body tells you, I am at present fully recovered and dorsum to normal you will become there merely it is a slow process. I wish you all the best have care xx

Pneumonia tin can take a couple of months to go over. I had pneumonia a few years ago and was also in hospital, I used to lookout man my favourite TV and films. I would do a little bit each day, i put the washing on, prepare dinner all in short blasts.
Eat well and rest then 24-hour interval by mean solar day when you experience well enough do a bit more. When yous can get out and take a walk it feels practiced.
Don't beat yourself up, accept it tedious yous volition feel better but it will take time. Accept intendance ten x
Agree with everything others have already said especially 02Trees. xviii months ago I had A Viral Pneumonia that took me to Intensive Intendance for 19 days and Hospital for a calendar month. Some days I feel equally of I am withal recovering from that episode in my life when my life was held in the balance and then I accept been told! Community Matrons even so calling in regularly and great support from local GP surgery and my taking exercise regularly as much as I am able and having done a PR class again has all helped me to stay positive. Its hard some days just I try to be grateful for what I take rather than what I no longer can do, not always easy. Merely it can get better day at a time. Wishing you well.
Finish crying information technology will not brand you lot better .... family want to help and think they do but they want you to get better quick and dorsum to normal which can sometimes take time as pneumonia really knocks your stuffing out .... effort and fine i thing a day to do ... empty a drawer, commencement a book ... write a letter of the alphabet to a friend ... fifty-fifty depict a film ... anything to have your mind off you .... I craft and I am so glad I practice ... I too play a lot of games on my calculator which gets my adrenalin going .... so chin upward ... yous are home and notwithstanding breathing and then keep posting and reading others posts ... some are so funny.... Have care time will brand y'all improve xxxxx
I only want thank all who posted replies to Mathnerd. I thought I was unique in that it has taken so long to get well. I even so haven't fully recovered and wondered if I always would. I accept progressed but extremely slowly but the replies have helped me exist more positive for the future.
Thank you one time once more.

Hello, I accept Bronchiectasis with Pseudomonas colonisation. I also get Pneumonia and it really knocks me for 6. Attempt to take a gentle walk in the fresh air - weather condition permitting of course. Or mayhap you could do gentle exercises indoors, but most an open window. I notice there's nothing that lifts my mood amend than being outdoors where I tin smell the flowers and hear the birds singing. All the best
Hi Mathnerd, you don't say if you have have COPD? I have severe COPD and was hospitalised ii years ago with pneumonia for iii weeks. Information technology took about 3 months to feel better again.
I remember if you can move most at all and do some easy practise no matter how slow you volition feel meliorate. Sitting round focusing how bad it is in your mind makes it worse.
Was taken into infirmary with suspected pulmonary embolism. Was 'but' pneumonia. Out later a week only still feeble. Afterward 4 weeks was at GP for sick note (20 years sgo) and asked about when I should be thinking of going back to piece of work. GP said I shouldn't be doing that yet as "You've not been well y'all know." Was another iii-4 weeks before I was dorsum at my desk and another calendar month or so earlier fully well.
Don't rush it, build upwardly gradually.
It takes a long time to get back to normal give it fourth dimension and rest but don't stay in bed as that's not going to get you lot well
I take had Pneumonia for the last 3 weeks - in fact spent my altogether in bed. I have had various illnesses over the years and Op'due south. I had pneumonia in November/ Dec 2022 and felt very ill but nothing like this. I accept had numourous infections and seem to exist on AB'due south over the final 18 months. My GP is marvellous lucky me. I cannot end cough and I am full of gummy thick mucous !! I have been put on Erditin as the mucodyne doesn't help nor the Carbasteine. I am steaming often, using my flutter and nebuliser a few times a mean solar day but as much as I articulate some other lot comes back. Does anyone know if Physiotherapy would aid me. My GP and the respiratory nurses say that I am doing everything right ? Anyone out there who can help me please xx I am desperate to try Annihilation xxx
Hullo Nitap, could your GP get you lot into seeing a Pulmonologist? (which is a lung specialist) Since you take been ill for and then long, y'all definitely need to go back to the doctor. As far every bit physiotherapy, that is used more than on patients that need physical therapy. Can you get upward and move around some? That helps loosen the phlegm and then will a hot shower. In the meantime, I would contact my medico. Yous demand a lung specialist according to your entry. Keep us posted.
Well Hello Mathnerd, I too am from the US-from NC. I was reading a few entries virtually you lot and one thing I picked up on was your anxiety and depression. Did they non tell you from the infirmary that all the Iv Steroids will make feel similar yous're on a roller coaster with emotions? They always use Iv Steroids with IV antibiotics for pneumonia. It's true. I've been there and know how yous feel. It's never a few days either, it is a long stay. Once I was inpatient for ane week another time for 2 weeks because of pneumonia. For me, I would try to beverage more water and help flush all the meds through my system. They stay in your system even after y'all accept came dwelling house.
Well, yous said you needed some words of encouragement. This is you lucky day~ I have lung cancer from smoking. In 2011, I had one-half of my left lung removed and went through 4 rounds of chemo in 2011. A couple of years ago, I had a recurrence in my right lung. By and then, copd was so bad in that lung, that surgery wasn't an option. So, I did five rounds of radiations. I just went back terminal week for my regular CT Lung scan and now I have a new tumor in the bottom of my right lung. And then I hope this encourages yous to roll out of the bed, enjoy being 40 and do some things you want to do. I wish I was twoscore again. I would have made a lot of changes. It's also late now for me, then I take one day at a fourth dimension.
I want yous to relish your family more. Kiss the Babe. Pet the domestic dog and blow a few kisses. Life is so short. Make it happen. Don't worry, be happy!
I'thou sorry for your health situation. I wish I had some feel and encouragement for you. Hang in there. Thank you for your words. No one told me that the steroids would wreak havoc on my emotional country. I've been home at present a month and things are starting to get better but I still have days that I just cry. information technology seems like the steroids should be out of my organization past now?
Well, allow'due south just say information technology could be a number of things even so going on with you lot. Were you depressed earlier your pneumonia? Maybe you should see your dr., may a primary intendance doctor. Low is a terrible thing, but information technology can be treated. I am wondering as I type this, have you been ill besides pneumonia? Guess I'1000 asking if you have a poor wellness record or serious illness?
Never been ill before this. Unremarkably don't even get colds. Mild low before pneumonia. I have spoken with my GP and she put me on an anti anxiety med. I hope information technology helps.
Wooooooooow am truly inspired past your testimony God is big and miracles happen i know God is gonna cure you lot me and my will pray for you
You said "anti anxiety med?" I was talking about an anti-depressant. Sometimes people take more than one. My son is on two anti-depressants. They increased his lately considering of my health I guess. He's having to bargain with the loss of his mom i twenty-four hour period. I feel worse for him than I practice for myself. Sometimes anti anxiety meds make yous worse, more than deplorable. Yous may still demand to call your doc. In the meantime, endeavour to do things that makes you smile. Put on some dancing music! I in one case heard that Happiness was a state of mind! Allow's both put on some dancing music! Take care.
Hi. It has been five months now since you posted this. Are y'all better now?
Yes. It took nearly 3 months. But I finally got my life back. This was a terrible journey and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Thanks for checking.
Information technology'south nice to hear that. I had pneumonia too last October 31. Later a week, they establish no bug in my breast xray later on taking antibiotics. I feel better about of the time but there are times that it was likewise bad. Is it usual?
Did anyone have any complications with their liver performance following pneumonia / antibiotics?
I'm 37 years erstwhile and am fighting my 7th tour of severe pneumonia since Feb 2018. I know this is an older thread, but information technology'due south still encouraging to see that others accept battled the same affair. I've never smoked cigarettes, have no history of lung issues, no asthma, no COPD, nothing like that. I'k a healthy adult other than this; information technology's just that endless doctors tin can't figure out why this will not stop coming back. You lot name an antibody, and I've been on it. As soon equally the course of antibiotics is finished, it comes right dorsum inside a few weeks.
I've been hospitalized vii times and then far, I've had both bilateral pneumonia and pneumonia that keeps recurring in the same spot in the heart section of my right lung. X-rays prove a "lesion" in that spot, and I wouldn't be surprised if I finish up with scarring in that location. It's been almost a calendar month since my terminal hospitalization, and two weeks since I stopped a course of I.5. vencomyacin at home, with a PICC line shooting it correct into my heart. The side effects were terrible both physically and mentally. I'm still extremely weak physically virtually days, I movement similar a ninety-year-old lady at 37, and I completely sympathize how difficult information technology is to stay positive and hopeful. I'm diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder and severe generalized feet disorder; medication helps the worst of it, but all the hospitalizations and treatment have been that much more than of an ordeal.
Similar you, my family no longer has sympathy, not that they had much to begin with. The parental units want me all amend right now, right now, right now. Each has even made scenes at the doctors when I've been in infirmary, and thus I barred them from visiting me after that. I've now been brushed off with "Text me when y'all're better." In that location's much more to this depressing family unit background, but the best communication I tin can come up up with: Surround yourself with positive, supportive people as much every bit possible. Whether they're friends, a significant other, etc. Ignore the toxic ones and call up your affliction and the aftermath aren't your fault at all. Anyone who shoves that negativity at you is total of s%^& and not worth your time and energy.
I promise you lot're strong again since a year ago, Mathnerd. I know how tough information technology is to deal with the idea it may have months to fully get over this and become your life fully back.
